Why Cholo Ghuri

Built for Kolkata Travellers

We're not a generic tour company. Every detail is designed for people who live in this city.

Community Focused

Travel with your neighbours. We bring together families and solo travellers from across Kolkata — Garia to Dunlop, Howrah to Salt Lake.

No-Stress Logistics

Door-to-door pickup from Esplanade, Sealdah, Garia, and Howrah. AC Volvo buses. You just show up — we handle everything.

Authentic Stays

No generic hotels. We partner with handpicked homestays and boutique properties where the host knows your name by evening.

Local Palate

Even on the road, the food meets Kolkata foodie standards. Bengali meals at every stop — luchi-alur dom for breakfast, kosha mangsho for dinner.

Meet Your Guide

Arnab Mukherjee

Founder & Lead Guide · Born in Bhowanipore, Kolkata

Born and raised in South Kolkata, Arnab spent his college years at Jadavpur University bunking classes to explore the backroads of Bengal on his motorcycle. What started as weekend escapes turned into a decade-long obsession with finding places that don't show up on Google Maps.

After 10 years in IT, he quit his job in 2018 to start Cholo Ghuri — a travel company built on one simple idea: Kolkatans deserve better than cookie-cutter Darjeeling packages.

He's personally scouted every route, tasted every meal, and slept in every homestay before adding it to a trip. If the bed isn't comfortable enough for his mother, it doesn't make the cut.

From Our Community

"The bus ride from Garia was so smooth — picked us up right from the Garia Metro stand. By the time we reached Purulia, it felt like a family trip, not a tour."

FAQ

Common Questions

What are the pickup points in Kolkata?
We have 4 fixed pickup points: Esplanade (opposite New Market), Sealdah Station (Gate 1), Garia Metro Station, and Howrah Station (Platform 1 exit). Door-to-door pickup is available for groups of 4+ at a small extra charge.
Are the tours senior-citizen friendly?
Absolutely. We grade every trip by difficulty — "Easy" trips like Shantiniketan and Purulia are perfect for seniors. We arrange ground-floor rooms, shorter walking routes, and our guides carry extra supplies. We've had guests aged 75+ enjoy our trips comfortably.
What happens if it rains during a monsoon tour?
Rain IS the experience on our monsoon tours! But we always have backup indoor activities planned — local cooking sessions, storytelling with villagers, or visits to covered viewpoints. We provide rain gear and waterproof bags for your belongings.
What kind of food is served?
Bengali meals at every stop. Breakfast is typically luchi-alur dom or porota-torkari. Lunch and dinner feature rice, dal, fish/chicken/mutton (veg options always available), and seasonal vegetables. We partner with local cooks, not catering services.
Can I join as a solo traveller?
Yes! About 30% of our travellers are solo. Our group format makes it easy to connect with others. We have a WhatsApp group for each trip where people start chatting before the journey even begins.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled 15+ days before departure. 50% refund for 7–14 days. No refund within 7 days, but you can transfer your booking to someone else at no extra cost.
